On a regular basis, we highlight content posted on other blogs that we feel would benefit our readers. This week's blog highlights include:
3D Printed Projects - The Latest from Dubai
Dubai hopes to lead the world in 3D printed buildings, announcing earlier this year that 25% of all buildings in the city will be 3D printed by 2030. Having already printed the world's first 3D printed office building in 17 days, it just awarded a contract to design and build a 3D laboratory project for the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. It will also be the first Dubai project to be completely printed on-site rather than printed offsite in segments and delivered to the jobsite for assembly. Click here to learn more.
More 3D Printed Projects - 27 Projects from Around the Globe
The Dubai office project mentioned above is one of the 27 pretty amazing structures printed around the world. Led by Amsterdam and China, but including Australia, France, Italy, the Philippines and the U.S., these projects represent a variety of materials and methods, both onsite and off. One project involves a robot that technically in not printing, but laying concrete blocks. Another project is an 8' x 5' x 7' house in Houston printed by an engineering student who built his own 3D printer, which is now commercially available. IOS 10 - Apple's New Features Benefit Construction Companies
Apple recently released its latest, and largest, operating system upgrade for its mobile platforms: IOS 10. According to Rob McKinney at the ConAppGuru blog, it offers 10 useful features for construction companies. For starters, the Mail App can now be set up to suggest folders for moving messages, such as a "Projects" folder. Collaboration, the big buzzword for better project delivery, is enhanced in IOS 10 by allowing users to be able to share and collaborate on a note, including sending invitations through Facebook, Messages, LinkedIn and others. Another one we feel will be useful is the ability to handwrite or scribble notes in text messages. Click here to see the complete list.
