ConstructionPro Network takes a look at interesting blog posts from the past week.

Singapore transit system
Tunnel and transit system construction personnel will appreciate the extensive coverage of the Thomson-East Coast Line being built in Singapore.  Aerial shots, "cut and cover" construction, boring machines, and shafts are featured in various photos and time-lapse sequences. The project is part of a plan to double the rail network from 178km today to 360km by 2030. When complete, eight of ten households on the island will live within 10 minutes of a train station.  Click here for the Thomson Line project.  More information on the transit system itself can be found here.

Marketing through connections and networking
At the Construction Marketing Ideas blog site, Mark Buckshon uses a picturesque tour through the Thousand Islands along the NY-Ontario border to illustrate the importance of having connections. In his four common-sense rules for developing connections, Buckshon emphasizes the real value of developing the connections is not the connections themselves, but the act of contributing to society and helping others. Click here for complete post.

Harassment and discrimination on construction sites
We missed this post two weeks ago, but it is important enough to cover nonetheless. Attorney Matt DeVries reminds us of being mindful of hiring practices and harassment on the job. Two recent cases filed by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), one of which settled, clearly illustrate that it doesn’t pay to not to do the right thing. Doing the right thing is also the subject of Matt’s most recent post. Infrastructure news, policy and industry developments
A new blog we uncovered recently focuses on infrastructure, a subject that affects us all as we are reminded each year of our failing grades by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Brought to you by the law firm of Nossaman, LLP, the blog site contains extremely detailed and well-written posts on infrastructure news, policy and industry developments. The most recent posts include news about the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Expedited Public Transportation Improvement Initiative (XPEDITE) and LA Metro’s pursuit of new P3 legislation. The Infra Insight blog can be found here.
