The City of Las Vegas has selected Hara, a provider of environmental and energy management software, to consolidate the city's energy and natural resource emissions data into a comprehensive environmental system of record and to track, manage, and optimize critical sustainability initiatives.
The implementation of Hara Environmental and Energy Management (EEM) will enable the city to manage the execution of its environmental and energy programs, track results per initiative, and provide an audit trail for any current or future regulatory requirements. The software will give the city performance metrics and stakeholder transparency capabilities that meet reporting requirements for sustainability initiatives and government funding programs such as the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.
"The City of Las Vegas is striving to build a more sustainable community by investing in long-term strategies to conserve energy and increase efficiencies from renewable resources," said Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, who also serves on the board of ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA. "We hope to more efficiently track the effectiveness of our initiatives and make progress toward our sustainability goals of creating jobs, driving down costs, and reducing our environmental impact."
The City of Las Vegas defines sustainability as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. The city's strategy includes numerous "green" policies and initiatives such as constructing new buildings to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards, water stewardship, alternative transportation, recycling, and greater energy efficiency through conservation and development of renewable energy sources.
Deployed in more than 90 countries, Hara EEM is designed to manage energy, resources, and emissions as an enterprise-wide, end-to-end "report to reduce" business process. Hara works with companies and government organizations to establish an environmental and energy record, identify and prioritize reduction projects, and leverage best practices across stakeholders.
In related news, Hara has announced an exclusive partnership with ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA to provide local governments with an end-to-end sustainability solution for managing, forecasting, and optimizing natural resource and energy usage, and reducing environmental impacts. The City of Las Vegas is a member of ICLEI's growing network of more than 1,200 cities, towns, counties, and their associations worldwide that focused on building sustainable communities.
